Holy Cow! 2009!
Familia Mia
Hey-How's it going? I'm good. All our baptismal commitments for January fell through. But they'll probably do it in February. Man-O-Man, time is falying super fast. So we've had a bunch of miracles this week. Like we locked our house and car keys in our apartment and I climbed through the window to save the day-that was fun in a skirt. The neighbors thought it was funny too.
We got a screw in our tire the other day. So we taught Sis. Howarth how to change the tire. Miracles with committing on the first lesson. Good stuff happening. I sent mom an email about all my recent converts. Leticia spoke in some meeting and did a great job. She was super nervous. but good. we are sight seeing with sis. Walker right now-super fun!

Well that went fast. We have a goal as a mission for 100 baptisms in January. We are desperately searching to find people so that we can do our part. We had Juan (Leti's Brother) committed for baptism but he didn't want to do it now, because he didn't want his dad to feel like he was betraying him. So he'll just join the marines next Monday and probably get baptized there. But that was all we had.
We got a referral from church HQ for a lady that lives across the street from us. So we went looking fore the apartment and the address was wrong, so I called the phone number...it was wrong too...so we're driving away and I'm looking at it (on the text message) and it says 4314 and I suggest to Sis. Howarth 43H. So we go knock on the door expecting to have someone say no...wrong house...but she answered and said YES! Crazy huh...So now we have her appt. to go teach her. We're excited for that!
Oh! Another story...We were driving home one night to grab a bite to eat before we were to head to correlation. We saw this lady pushing her car and felt like we should stop. So we did. Really long story short, less-active family of 9 re-activated and 3 baptisms. Cool eh?...
Umm...Yesterday we were fasting and the Busby's invited us over for dinner to break the fast and well, we had the choice of really gross HAM sandwiches or Menudo. I had a big bowl of Menudo. Don't know what it is? Well it's not very good -ask someone that served a Spanish Speaking mission. ha ha ha.
I guess that is all we have for this week.
Love, HNA Baker
For New Years we had to be in by 6:30. So sis. Howarth and I counted down till 9:00 and celebrated. The she trimmed my nasty split ends.

Hola Familia
Christmas came and went. We had such a crazy week! First, I'll tell ya, we watched a movie at the mission Christmas party. Pretty Weird. Not sure if I liked it or not. (THEY WATCHED 'ERRAND OF ANGELS')
Last sunday started our 'white christmas" and yesterday ended it. they got comfirmed yesterday. (the Gonzalaz family) Get this, then they asked Ruben to say a closing prayer in Sacrament meeting next week! He's terrified!
I'm still in Spring Valley with Sis. Howarth-I'll be sending her home to Utah at the end of this transfer. Yep, so I will have sent home every single companion (except those from the MTC)
ANYWAY...We had sort of a crazy experience yesterday. We mate a girl named Joyce in Target a couple of weeks ago (already a member but inactive). So we went to find her last night. Well, she wasn't there but we ended up talking to her mother, who immediately invited us in and wanted to feed us (she's not a member of the church and we've never met her before) So we talked for a bit, she gave us a bag of lemons, oranges, and tangerines, some hats that she knitted in front of us, some homemade tortillas that she also made infront of us, and a dinner appt. tuesday to talk about her daughter. Pretty much one of the most random experiences ever. We still don't even know her.
The mission has a goal for 100 baptisms in January. So hopefully with all the changes being made, we can do our part in that. Other than that, I guess that's about it.

Hola Familia Mìa:
First of all mom: Liz Walker says thanks so much for your card you sent (a while ago). She reads it all the time because it's so nice. -Thanks for sending it to her-.
Okay, what happend this week. Monday was a huge miracle with the Malfabon family. They've been less active for a very long time and ever since I got to Spring Valley, we've been working with them. Me and Schallen worked a lot with them, but never saw any progress. I've loved them from the very beginning though. They are so sweet. The Hna gave me her sweater on night when I forgot mine. And the Hno. makes me laugh all the time. So when Sis. Howarth came here, she struggled because we couldn't see any progression. Then on Monday, we were eating dinner and talking and they finally started telling us their doubts and as were were answering them, the Hno. started to talk about what he does know and believe, then he started to talk about his doubt about the Book of Mormon and as he was talking, he solved his own doubt! He set a New Year's resolution to come back to chruch, bue we talked them into doing it the last Sunday instead. Ü.
We are going to be the ultimate Preach my Gospel mission. We have been asked to commit on the first lesson now! The mission is going to explode! Then we went, well, we've gone to the temple to see the lights a whole bunch lately (with inactive and investigators and recent converts) I'll send some pictures with this letter. But we went with Leticia on Saturday and she loved it. It was super fun, but really cold.
Saturday morning we went for Ward Temple day. 16 members from our ward (6 were missionaries), but that is the most since I've been here! The session was in Spanish as usual and as we walk in, they guy at the door asks if we want headphones and we say 'no, we're okay' and he looks at us and says 'Oh, porque son Mexecana verdad?" (Oh because you're Mexicans right'- Ha ha, it was pretty good. I got a kick out of it!
Let's see, what else...It's been raining tons lately.
Okay, yesterday was the baptism of the Gonzalez family. Ruben, Fidencia, and Teresa. Turns ouf Melissa isn't accountable. So the family prayed about it, and she didn't get baptized. She had a blast though! Everytime they dunked her sisters and dad, she bursted out laughing (Melissa has Down Syndrome) But they are all very happy and are super excited to go to the temple. Very cute family.
Well, let me think if I can come up with a funny story...Ok-so I can't think of anything. This next week will be full of dumb stories of my mishaps
